Social Driver CEO and Co-founder Thomas Sanchez joined the board of directors of the Eisenhower Foundation, the nonprofit that supports the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum and runs national youth-focused educational programming.
“There is a statue on the National Mall of a young Dwight D. Eisenhower looking out from his boyhood home in Abilene, Kansas, toward the monuments of him as a general and president,” Sanchez said.“ Eisenhower showed us that children from every background, even those from the most overlooked places, have the potential to shape the world for good."
Sanchez, who grew up on a farm in Missouri and is a first generation college graduate, is one of three Washington DC-based executives recently elected to the board. Sanchez has focused Social Driver's social responsibility programs and The Driver Foundation's philanthropic giving on empowering young people by supporting organizations like LearnServe International, which equips high school students from diverse backgrounds with entrepreneurial vision and leadership skills and The Trevor Project, the leading organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ people under 25. Sanchez also serves on The Trevor Project’s Board of Directors and is Secretary of the nonprofit corporation.
"My passion has always been focused on empowering young people and this is an opportunity for us to do that for the next generation of leaders," Sanchez added.
"Augmenting our Board of Directors with individuals who have a variety of skills, perspectives, backgrounds and resources promotes creativity and innovation and yields different voices that will play an important role in accomplishing our mission. Thomas met these criteria and I am pleased to work with him as the Eisenhower Foundation continues to accomplish great things,” said Eisenhower Foundation Executive Director Meredith Sleichter.
In recent years, Social Driver has grown its team in Kansas City, which is near the Eisenhower Foundation's headquarters in Abilene, Kansas. This board service will allow Social Driver to continue to deepen its involvement throughout the region.
Social Driver previously received People To People International’s Chairman’s Award for its charitable work through The Driver Foundation. People to People International is a nonprofit that was originally established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and is responsible for the immersive cultural travel, the education of all age groups in global enrichment and the relevant humanitarian assistance for thousands of people every year.
